How to beat the winter workout blues

by Ncumisa Lerato Kunana

The winter cold adds a harsh and depressing element to our training regimens, especially if you prefer exercising outside on a sunny summer day. Here are some tips that will help you overcome the winter workout blues offered by Healthline and Medium:

Stick to your schedule

It’s crucial to maintain your schedule despite variations in the amount of daylight and the temperature outside. Even if it means doing shorter workouts, stick to your fitness program. Any exercise is preferable to none, and missing days adds up quickly.

Go outside

Prioritize spending time outside, even if it means limiting yourself to weekends or shorter periods of time! According to studies, spending just two hours outside each week significantly improves our general health and wellbeing. Increased feelings of generosity, joy, and creativity are among these. Even though there is less sunlight during this season, make sure to prioritize spending time outside!

Take part in a challenge

A challenge is one of the best things we can do to keep our motivation for exercise high. Participating in a challenge can keep you physically active over the winter whether you engage in friendly competition or collaborate with others to achieve a common objective. Challenges are a good method to hold people accountable.

Food

In addition to the fact that we prefer hearty carb-heavy foods in the winter, winter foods also frequently contain more carbs than other foods. Being mindful of our diet is crucial since it can make us feel lethargic and increase the likelihood that we will have setbacks in our efforts to exercise. Be sure to eat for nutrition and stay well-hydrated in the winter to keep your energy levels high.
