How bad is it to eat the same thing every day?

When it comes to eating healthy, it is important to note that there are advantages and disadvantages to eating the same meal every day.

While there are individuals who take comfort in familiar meals and thrive on routine, you may be unintentionally limiting the variety of foods that you need in your diet and running the risk of developing health problems.

According to Deborah Cohen, an associate professor in the Department of Clinical and Preventive Nutrition Sciences at Rutgers University School of Health Professions, “Eating the same thing every day may not be the best for the gut microbiome,” and further adds, “The bacteria in our gut like a diversity of foods and nutrients for a healthy balance.”

A registered dietitian Carly Sedlacek claims that it depends on the meal that you are eating, stating that if you eat the same thing every day, it must be a nutritious meal. The best nutrient-dense foods that everyone can and should eat daily are fruits and vegetables.

Make your go-to meal something with less added sugar if you have diabetes, and try to keep your plate balanced. If you have high blood pressure, the same applies to eating low-sodium foods, the above expert added.

According to Healthline, you shouldn’t eat the same items for every meal of the day but it does not mean that you cannot create a meal plan to make eating healthily simple.

The above health publication also suggests, “Opt for similar meals and snacks instead of keeping them exactly the same to get the benefits without losing out.”
