Home remedies for sinuses

Sinuses are very common, many people struggle with this. Sinusitis or a sinus infection, medically termed ‘rhinosinusitis’ is according to WebMD small cavities in the skull that are normally filled with air. They make mucus, which helps keep the nasal passages clear of allergens and pollutants.

According to WebMD sinus can be acute or chronic. Headache, blocked nose, discharge from the nose, cough, postnasal drainage, pain, tenderness, swelling around the eyes, cheeks, nose or forehead and a reduced sense of smell and taste are some of the signs and symptoms of sinus

The symptoms can make you feel uncomfortable and cause discomfort. So, to lower the sinus pain and make you feel better, here are some home remedies for sinus:

Steam inhalation

According to healthline, Steam helps relieve congestion by loosening mucus.

Give yourself a steam treatment using a bowl of hot water and a large towel. Instead of steaming with just plaine water you can add menthol, camphor, or eucalyptus oils to the water.

To achieve the best relief, you need to place a towel over your head, so it falls along the sides of the bowl, trapping the steam inside.

Beverages 

Drink loads of water. According to healthline, fluids and humidification help to thin mucus and drain your sinuses. They also lubricate your sinuses and keep your skin hydrated.

Hot beverages, like herbal tea, can be especially hydrating. Healthline says tot beverages also provide an extra benefit from the steam.

Warm water compression

Applying heat to the affected sinus area can help loosen the mucus and decrease some of the pain from the pressure in your sinuses. 

What you can do is boil a bowl of water, take a clean washcloth and dip into the warm water. Place the warm cloth across the bridge of your nose and cheeks for a few minutes.

Chicken soup

According to a study conducted by the National Library of Medicine on Chicken soup inhibits neutrophil chemotaxis in vitro, chicken soup reduces inflammation associated with sinus congestion and colds.
