Healthy ways to gain weight

There are many reasons why you may not be at your desired weight goal. Often you hear of people wanting to lose weight, when you are eager to gain just a bit more kilograms.

People may give you stares and some might even scream at you for wanting to put on weight because ‘your body is perfect.”

It is very common for athletes to want to gain weight to build muscle but you could be going through an illness as a result of your weight loss.

If you think that gaining a bit of weight will give you a confidence boost then follow these tips on how to gain weight by Mayo Clinic:

Eating more frequently

Instead of overwhelming yourself with large portions of foods you can slowly begin to eat 5 to 6 smaller meals during the day. Because your body may not be used to eating that much at first, it might be hard for you to eat that much in a day. Then you may need to plan times to eat even if you aren’t that hungry.

Choosing food with lots of nutrients

This might take a bit of research or you will need to speak to a dietitian but you will need to set up a routine to eat and drink things you like and that have a lot of nutrients as well as calories.

Top it off

Be creative with your meals and add extras to your dishes for more calories, such as cheese in casseroles or nut butter on whole-grain toast.

Try smoothies and shakes

Avoid beverages with few nutrients or calories, such as diet soda. But a blend of high-calorie, nutritious ingredients in a smoothie or shake can help if you’re eating on the go. Meal replacement drinks also may be part of your weight-gain effort.

Exercise

Exercise, especially strength training, can help you gain weight by building up your muscles. Exercise may also stimulate your appetite.
