Foods to not eat during pregnancy

Eating a variety of healthy foods while pregnant is beneficial for both you and your unborn child. However, some foods should be avoided while you are pregnant since they could harm you or your unborn child.

Sea Food

The omega-3 fatty acids in many fish, which are found in seafood, can help your baby’s brain and eye development. Although seafood can be a fantastic source of protein it can also be harmful to your baby according to Mayo Clinic, this is due to some fish and shellfish having mercury levels that could be harmful. The developing neurological system of your child could be harmed by too much mercury.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises that the following fish should be avoided during pregnancy:

  • Orange roughy
  • Shark
  • King mackerel
  • Tilefish
  • Marlin
  • Bigeye tuna
  • Swordfish

Raw fish and Uncooked meat 

According to Healthline, there is a significant chance that raw fish, particularly shellfish, will have bacteria or parasites like norovirus, vibrio, salmonella, or listeria which is not good for your baby.

Coffee

Caffeine intake can raise your chances of miscarriage, early birth, or low birth weight babies. There are many foods, like coffee, tea, and chocolate, that naturally contain caffeine. Some soft drinks and energy drinks also include it states, Pregnancy birth and baby.

Vitamin A

Pregnancy birth and baby.com says retinol, often known as vitamin A, can be harmful to your unborn child in excess. Vitamin A levels in liver should be kept to a minimum adverse the publication. 

Alcohol 

Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder may develop in your unborn child if you consume large amounts of alcohol while you are pregnant. You run a higher risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, and early birth if you drink alcohol states Pregnancy birth and baby.com.
