In a significant move aimed at safeguarding public health, the National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced the recall of specific Nutricia baby formula products due to potential toxin contamination, reports Cape {town} Etc.

The affected items include the Nutricia Aptamil Nutribiotik 2 (800g) and Nutricia Aptajunior Nutribiotik 3 (800g), with a total of 2,989 units potentially compromised.

The alarm was raised after Nutricia Southern Africa, the manufacturer behind these products, reported to the NCC that a raw material utilised in their production may contain traces of cereulide, a toxin harmful at elevated levels.

Exposure to cereulide can lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps, putting consumers, particularly young infants, at risk.

These specific batches have been in circulation since August 2025, sold primarily through major retailers such as Dis-Chem and Clicks.

Additionally, these products were distributed nationally by United Pharmaceutical and have even reached international markets, being exported to Botswana and Namibia.
