Candle colours explained in spiritual practise of ubungoma

In the ancestral world, candles play an influential role in providing a particular force and redirecting energy that has strayed from its path. The candles, specifically in the practice of ubungoma (traditional healing practice), can symbolize the inclusion of different ancestors that a healer has.

Following are candle colours and what they mean or stand for in the practise of ubungoma supplied by briefly.com.

The white candles – this is a candle found in many homes in Mzansi as it is used to keep many homes alight during load shedding darkness. White candles as per briefing.com, “feature mostly in traditional healing processes is white, and this type of candle stands for purity and provides light. In a state of confusion or questioning, the white candle is a great tool to ask for clarity from God or one’s ancestors.”

Yellow candles – is popularly known for representing the sun’s light. This candle serves as a connection between those using it and their ancestors regardless of whether they have a spiritual calling or not. It is also be used in rituals for money, material goods and communication, from Physical to Spiritual communications and connections.

Red candles – is used for protection as it represents strength of fire. In cases where people feel like they are spiritually attacked, sangoma’s recommend incorporating the red candle in order to, “protect oneself and space and counter the spiritual attacks carried out by their enemies.”

Green candles – emblematizes provision for life and fertility. The green colour is closely related to nature hence linking it to life restoration. “For other healers, the green candle is recommended to clients for manifesting money opportunities and other material gains.”
