6 celebrities style their doeks for different occasions

by All4Women

Doeks are usually worn by African women to show their culture and beliefs. Some cover their heads to show they are married, while others wear a them when they are in mourning. But doeks are becoming a normal part of everyday wear for many women.

Not only is it a way to proudly show off your heritage, but it can also be a perfect addition to a fashionable outfit.

Here’s a look at how South African celebrities wear their doeks to work, on the red carpet and while partying with friends.

1. Basetsana Kumalo – a formal work event. The former Miss South Africa and businesswoman wore this doek while attending an event for the Nelson Mandela Institute for Education and Rural Development.

#AboutLastNight at the Nelson Mandela Institute for Education and Rural Development 10 year celebration. I have had the privilege of serving on the NMI Sustainability and Investment Committee for the past decade and the work that we do for education is only possible through the partnerships we have with our donors, funders and corporate South Africa. The Nelson Mandela Institute was launched by uMadiba in 2007 to take forward his legacy work on Education. Last night we reflected on the journey of uTata’s work in rural education beginning in the 1990’s when he called upon private sector to build rural schools. At NMI we work carefully with teachers, parents and children building tools to support reading, writing and mathematics in rural primary schooling. Our quest is to create quality education for all children in our lifetime. Tata once said: “It is not beyond our power to create a world in which all children have access to a good education. Those who do not believe this, have small imaginations. #EducationIsARight ? @sbu_kandee
