Winter Chic: Braids vs Weaves

Gone are the summer days when you could rock any hairstyle at any time, as winter has now approached and each season needs an appropriate hairstyle.

The fight between whether you should get a protective hairstyle or wear weaves continues as both hairstyles need constant maintenance. When confused about making a decision, one should remember to make the choice that is best suited for them.

According to Natural Sisters– a hair care hub- Evenes Ruth Mafupa, a hair stylist, acknowledges the importance of protective style in the winter. She adds that her hair thrives with a protective treatment, whilst remembering to be realistic when choosing a style that matches her needs, lifestyle, and difficulties.

Klassi-La’Chiq, a North Carolina-based hair salon provides reasons why braids are for winter seasons.

  • Braids are ideal for winter hair protection, especially for ladies with textured hair.
  • Braids form a protective barrier against cold temperatures.
  • Braids reduce breakage and broken ends by proper tucking and less exposure.
  • Braids encourage healthy hair development by encouraging regrowth rather than hair loss.

Evens lists five reasons she thinks weaves are better than braids in winter:

  • Attaches the hair piece to the cornrows for safety.
  • Reduces hair manipulation.
  • Improves length retention.
  • Long-term responsibility.
  • Relieves the individual and their hair of the need for constant care.

Both braids and weaves have advantages, braids are ideal for low maintenance and scalp health, whilst weaves provide flexibility and style possibilities. You should always consider your lifestyle and hair care preferences when deciding which winter hairstyle to choose.
