Wig care: The do’s and don’ts

by Ncumisa Lerato Kunana

According to Reuters research, the dry hair industry, which includes human hair wigs, is one of the largest in the world.

Wigs, which come in a variety of textures, styles, colors, and lengths, are ideal for quickly changing up your entire look without having to visit a salon or make a permanent change to your hair.

It’s no secret that wigs aren’t cheap, and how you care for them has an impact on how long they last.

Wig do’s
Purchase high-quality hair care products.

Whether you get a straight or curly wig, you should also invest in products that will keep your hair looking healthy, such as sulfate-free shampoos, conditioners and a good hair straightener.

A good straightener is probably one of the best hair tools you can buy. Straighteners are essential for keeping your hair looking good at all times. “Be sure to use a heat protectant on your hair before using the straightener.

Wash your wig on a regular basis.

Deeply wash your hair at least once every two months to avoid odour. If you wash your hair too frequently with shampoo, it will become dry and will not last as long. “When washing your hair, use a sulfate-free shampoo.

To detangle your wig, use conditioner.

Rather than washing your hair once a week, condition it once a week to keep it healthy. Conditioner detangles the hair while also adding nutrients to help it stay healthier for longer.

Wig Dont’s

Keep chlorine away from your hair.

Although it may appear to be a good idea to enter the pool with your inches, celebrity hairstylist Ohaekwuzie Ekene Daniel, strongly advises against it because it causes more harm than good.

“The chlorine chemical is bad for all hair types. If chlorine combines with your wig, it will never return to its original state, regardless of its quality. “Rather, remove the wig before entering the pool,” he advises.

Don’t experiment with your wig.

If you are not a professional stylist then you should not experiment with your wig because you can easily damage it. Go to your nearest salon with a trained stylists who know how to color, cut, and style hair.

You should not use a rattle comb.

There are various types of combs available, but never use narrow tooth combs on wigs. These combs will cause your wigs to shed quickly; instead, use wide tooth combs and brushes on your wigs, which will not break the hair on the wig.
