Why you should have a body scrub in your skincare routine

by Akhona Ndlela

Everyone desires smooth, radiant skin.

However, if you only use soap and water for your showers, you may be leaving out an important step: body scrubbing.

Even if you only use a body scrub once or twice a week, it can have a significant impact on the appearance and feel of your skin.

According to ZZ Day Spa, although scrubs appear to be a relatively new and modern beauty technique, they have been used since the dawn of civilisation. They originated in ancient Egypt, where members of the royal family and later the general public participated in these advantages. To keep their skin smooth and wrinkle-free from the desert heat, they would use scrubs that contained scented oils, and to best nourish the body, mind, and soul, these practices were adopted by other ancient cultures in Greece, Rome, and India.

Types of body scrubs

  • Salt scrubs are coarser and more powerful, perfect for rough or dry areas, while sugar scrubs are mild grains used for sensitive or dry skin.
  • Coffee scrubs are good for dull or cellulite-prone skin because they are medium-coarse and gritty.
  • Natural herbs are used to make herbal or Ayurvedic scrubs, which reduce irritation, combat bacteria, and encourage healing.
  • Soft and creamy, oatmeal scrubs are ideal for skin that is irritated or sensitive.
  • Medium-to-coarse charcoal scrubs are perfect for oily or acne-prone skin because they use activated charcoal to absorb excess oil and draw out impurities.

Benefits

Kiehl’s claims that body scrubs immediately remove dead skin cells, leaving skin feeling smoother and more radiant. They also aid in improving skin discolouration, clearing out clogged pores, and increasing clarity. Body scrub usage frequency is influenced by a number of variables, including skin type, formula, and individual preferences.

The above source further warns that beginners should begin slowly and gradually increase. Steer clear of exfoliating skin that is burned, broken, or irritated.
