The suprising beetroot effect for hair

You might have never guessed this one, but beetroot might just be the unexpected hero your hair routine has been waiting for. That deep purple root, better known for staining chopping boards and boosting your iron levels, has quietly stepped into the beauty chat… and it’s turning heads.

Beetroot is rich in folate, iron, potassium, and antioxidants—nutrients your hair loves, according to Medical News Today. Iron is said to help transport oxygen to hair follicles, supporting growth and strength. Low iron levels, on the other hand, can lead to thinning or shedding. Beetroot, however, is a natural iron-booster that nourishes your hair from the inside out, states the above health publication.

Beetroot juice is also packed with Vitamin C and nitrates, which support blood circulation, based on a 2018 Nutrients journal article. This journal highlighted how improved circulation means more nutrients reach your scalp—think of it as better room service for your follicles.

Some fans swear by beetroot’s topical magic, too. HealthShot claims that mixed with carrier oils like coconut or castor, beetroot paste is said to help reduce dandruff and improve shine. Plus, the vibrant pigment can even add a reddish tint to hair, totally natural and chemical-free, adds the mentioned source.

If you’re sipping your way to better strands? Go slow. While beetroot juice is a nutritional powerhouse, overdoing it can lead to beeturia (pink pee) or digestive upset, notes WebMD.

Haircare, it seems, is no longer just about expensive bottles and salon trips. Sometimes, it starts in the kitchen with a humble root that’s as beautiful as it is beneficial. So next time you toss a beetroot into your smoothie or salad, know you’re not just fuelling your body—you’re giving your hair a little love too.
