Skincare routine neglected? Here’s what you need to revive it as a man

When it comes to taking care of your skin, it is important to ensure that you are intentional about what you want to achieve.

Our skin is uniquely individual, which means that your skincare needs may differ from those of your family and friends. Therefore, it’s crucial to choose your products thoughtfully to achieve the results you desire. This is especially true for men, whose skincare requirements often deserve a more tailored approach.

“We know that the anatomy of men and women is quite different. Skin, for starters, is a beast all its own—men’s skin is thicker, coarser, and oilier by nature. So, it only makes sense that skincare routines would vary from gender to gender,” highlights the cosmetics brand Keihl’s.

The online publication BASF further emphasises that having a good skincare routine not only benefits personal hygiene but is also useful for other factors, such as it protects against harmful environmental factors, such as UV rays. It improves the appearance of skin, boosts self-esteem, and increases one’s social acceptance.

If we are honest with ourselves, we can all benefit from this in our daily interactions, where it becomes important to put our best foot forward.

However, before starting any skincare journey, it is important to know your skin type. This ensures that you make wise decisions about which products work best with your skin.

Here are a few useful tips on things you need to incorporate into your skincare journey as recommended by Healthline:

  • Cleanse: Cleansing your face is effective in reducing the surface oil on your face. It is recommended that you alternate between cleansing and exfoliating on days you are required to shave your beard.
  • Repair: Our skin often faces the negative effects of free radicals after being exposed to the UV rays of the sun as well as exposure to air pollution. It is therefore important to apply an antioxidant in the form of vitamin C before a moisturiser to help repair the damage on your skin.
  • Protect: Add a moisturiser which contains SPF to protect your skin from the elements of the sun.
