Prep your wardrobe for autumn with these items

As the air gets crisp and the leaves start to turn, it’s time to swap out breezy summer staples for cosy autumn essentials. Layering becomes your best friend, and rich, earthy tones take centre stage.

Whether you’re a fan of classic trench coats or statement scarves, a well-prepped autumn wardrobe isn’t just about staying warm—it’s about embracing the season in style. So, if you haven’t dusted off your favourite sweater yet, consider this your sign to get ready for the cosiest fashion season of the year.

The Sweepsouth publication suggests that a lightweight scarf, denim jacket, ankle boots, knit sweater, and trench coat are essential accessories for autumn. The publication explains that a lightweight scarf adds warmth and style, while a denim jacket transitions seamlessly from day to night.

Ankle boots offer comfort and support, while a knit sweater keeps you warm and comfortable, and a classic trench coat exudes elegance and sophistication, making it perfect for transitional weather, adds the publication above.

The Perennial Prepster states that a classic autumn outfit includes a plaid blazer, neutral sweaters, jeans, turtlenecks, a barn jacket, leather ballet flats, loafers, basic layering tops, a leather handbag, and minimal jewellery.

To maintain the longevity of knitwear as you will be wearing it a lot this season, the Good Housekeeping website advises that you hand-wash it in tepid water with a detergent designed for delicates, only using the machine on the delicates cycle if the care label allows.

To prevent bobbling, the above source recommends using a single-blade razor and adhesive tape to shave away loose particles. “Hand-wash or launder them separately on a delicate cycle and either air-dry them or tumble-dry on a low heat setting. For expensive accessories, such as luxe scarves, it’s best to take a trip to the dry cleaners.”
