One thing about this economy is that it forces you to not only be baddies on a budget but to DIY or find beauty hacks that will save you money.

When it comes to learning new skills, doing it yourself may be hard but with a lot of practice and determination, you will succeed. Aftre all, we know that nail supplies are expensive which makes the service even more expensive.

TikToker Buhle Mayatula demonstrates how to apply soft gel tips at home with a quick tutorial. She also shares a comprehensive list of things you need to have before attempting a DIY nail job.

Here are tips to master the art of DIY nails:

  • Find the perfect sized nail: If your nail tips aren’t the right size, you can file them down to fit. Once you have the right size, it’s time to apply nail primer and tips to your natural nails. Nail primer helps the gel polish adhere to your nails better. Wait 15 minutes to dry completely.
  • Use a UV nail lamp to dry the nails: Place your nails under a UV lamp for a few minutes until the gel polish is completely dry. Once cured, it’s time to cut and shape your nails. Use a nail cutter and file to get your desired shape.
  • Apply a base coat to your nails: Dry the base coat under the UV lamp for a few minutes. Next, apply two coats of gel polish of your choice.
  • Apply a top coat to your nails: The top coat will give your nails a shiny finish and protect the gel polish from chipping. Once you use the top coat, cure it under the UV lamp for a few minutes.
  • Fix any stray polish with a nail polish remover.

By following these detailed instructions, you can get salon-quality nails in the comfort of your home. If you want to achieve stunning nails lasting for weeks, taking your time and patience is essential. Before attempting to do your nails, having the necessary skills and knowledge is crucial.
