Key ingredients to lookout for in skincare products

by Ncumisa Lerato Kunana

Every time you visit the store, there are hundreds of skincare items competing for your attention. In addition, most skincare companies will use words like “hydrating,” “clarifying,” or “anti-aging” on their labels to catch your eye and make their products stand out in the sea of options you are presented with.

It should be simple to locate a product that will solve your skin concerns with such straightforward labeling. Unfortunately, that is frequently not the case, and you can decide to buy a product that makes a specific claim and end up with subpar results, if any.

This is why it is important to know the key ingredients to look out for in skincare to address your skin concerns. With the help of Kate Sommerville Skincare experts we have compiled a list of key ingredients to look out for.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is essential for maintaining healthy, youthful-looking skin because it is an antioxidant. First, by neutralizing dangerous free radicals, it helps prevent premature aging on your face by reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, and moisture loss.

Retinol

Retinol is a man-made derivative of vitamin A and when placed on the surface of the skin, it is converted into retinoic acid. Retinol improves the skin’s capacity to hold moisture, which helps to counteract the natural loss of face fullness. And by hydrating it more, your skin will look smoother and fuller. Retinol removes layers of dead skin and clogs pores, and with regular and prolonged application, it can even help to soften age spots and even out your skin tone.

Hyaluronic acid

Due to its potent moisturizing and anti-aging qualities, hyaluronic acid is a potent substance that has attracted a lot of attention in recent years.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide, a vitamin B3 derivative, has a powerful calming impact on inflamed skin. Niacinamide helps reduce the redness and irritability linked to several skin diseases because of its calming and antioxidant qualities.

Benzoyl Peroxide

Because it eliminates bacteria from your pores, benzoyl peroxide is a very efficient ingredient for treating acne.
