Internet user shocks many with braids costing almost R6K

Anyone who has done braids knows that they can be costly, as the price includes the labour fee and the hair to be used.

This hairstyle which can be rocked through all four seasons of the year sees more popularity during the winter season, as people use it as a way to protect hair while avoiding cold hair moisturisers and combing hair during cold days.

An internet user @sinovuyomondliwa took to her Instagram page to share her braids worth a whooping R5500, yep you heard right! The braids are made from human hair and the normal braiding fibre, hence their price.

Taking to her Instagram page the user shared a video of the process, captioning it:

“It’s a controversial hairstyle due to the price so I thought I should try it myself and see what I think and how I feel. I have documented the whole process which will be up on YouTube later on today. I paid R5550 and I think as the hairstyle becomes more commercial, the price could decrease slightly.”

In the video, the user said, “I’m about to do the craziest thing. It’s a little bit crazier than the sister locks because it’s temporary. I’m about to do human hair braids for R6k, let’s see how it goes.”

Internet users took to the comment section. to share:

“R5550?! Hai (No) heart attack in seconds, but you look beautiful Queen and the afro it’s giving,” commented a user.

“R550 or R5550?” asked one user.

Another user understood how the total got to R5500 commenting, “When you mention 5500 it’s a shocker however once you break it down that R3500 it’s for the human hair, I guess R500 for the braiding fibre then R1500 it’s normally what we pay for this luxury/salons in the parks in Joburg for braids. So yane (yes), we need some tax rebate for girl maintenance because the revenue spent on it yearly.”
