How to prep your face before using makeup

Preparing your skin before applying full-face makeup is essential, as proper skin preparation helps to prime your face and reduce the amount of makeup absorbed by your skin.

According to L’Oreal Paris, foundation makeup acts as a base for makeup. Without adequate preparation, the product may appear less effective.

Additionally, beauty hub, UpCircle states that humidity, rain, and the skin’s natural oils all affect makeup permanence. It is further said that preparing skin for effortless application is essential for a smooth finish.

Here are some pre-makeup skincare tips from various beauty and skincare hubs:

  1. Exfoliate your face: MAC emphasises the necessity of thoroughly cleaning the skin before applying makeup. They recommend a moisturising cleanser for oily face and a moisture-rich cleanser for dry skin.
  2. Use a toner: The source mentioned above adds the importance of toning your face before applying makeup, as it helps to remove impurities, resulting in a smoother complexion.
  3. Apply eye creams: Upcircle explains that eye creams are designed to reduce dark circles and puffiness around the eyes. The beauty hub also advises applying the cream carefully and avoiding dragging the skin. It’s recommended to choose a cream that contains moisturising and refreshing properties.
  4. Prime your face: To prepare the skin for makeup, it is advised to apply a primer first. Primers are said to come in a variety of forms, including creams, gels, and powders, and can be used over the entire face or particular areas such as the T-zone or under the eyes. The beauty hub suggests choosing a primer suitable for your skin type, as with primers you will achieve a long-lasting makeup look.
