How to make sure you don’t lose your hair during season change

by Silindokuhle Booi

As a girl with an Afro, I know how challenging it can be to maintain healthy and vibrant hair during seasonal changes.

The shift in temperature and humidity can lead to dryness, breakage, and even hair loss. I’ve learned a thing or two about how to protect my hair during these times, and I’m excited to share my thoughts with you.

When the seasons change, my hair tends to get dry and brittle. That’s why I make sure to moisturise, moisturise, moisturise! I use a hydrating leave-in conditioner or hair butter to keep my hair soft and supple. I also try to avoid using heat styling tools, or at least use a heat protectant spray to prevent damage.

I further believe that protecting your hair from the sun is crucial, especially during the summer months. I use a hat or a hair product with SPF to shield my hair from the harsh UV rays. And, of course, I get regular trims to prevent breakage and split ends.

Over the years, I’ve learned to be gentle with my hair. I use a wide-tooth comb to detangle my hair, and I avoid using harsh chemicals that can damage it. I also keep my hair tied up at night to prevent breakage and tangles, and I use a satin pillowcase to reduce friction while I sleep.

For me, it’s all about keeping my scalp healthy, too. I use a scalp massager or a scalp scrub to stimulate hair growth and to keep my scalp healthy. Gentle, sulfate-free hair care products that are formulated for Afro-textured hair also go a long way.

By following these tips, I’ve been able to keep my Afro hair healthy and strong during seasonal changes.

It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it to have hair that looks and feels its best. So, if you’re an Afro girlie like me, I hope these tips will help you to protect your hair and keep it looking its best all year round.
