Explore creative ways of transforming your bedroom into a sleep sanctuary

A little-known fact is that it’s easier to fall asleep, sleep better and deeper for longer in cooler weather. Colder weather lowers our core temperature, better preparing us for sleep. There are a few things you can do to improve your sleep.

Invest in cosy sheets or pyjamas

One of the best joyful moments of sleeping warm is sliding into a bed with fresh, warm sheets. Make sure your bedding is warm so your bed always feels fresh and cosy. Pyjamas can also help get you warm and cosy. Get yourself a few pairs of pyjamas that are warm enough to sleep in. You will go from cold to cosy in seconds flat.

Add more layers

Add a fur or thick blankets at the foot of the bed, not just for warmth, but for texture and visual appeal, which can help get the room cosy. Layers trap heat and give you the flexibility to adjust your warmth through the night. The added weight also drapes better over your body, preventing any cold drafts from creeping in. Choose a duvet filled with wool or a high-quality synthetic. Be sure it is full of warmth and breathability. The right duvet can make all the difference between a restless night and a deeply restorative sleep.

An electric blanket

If you’re not into layering, there’s another option. There’s nothing quite like getting into a warm bed. Many electric blankets come with timers and adjustable heat settings, allowing you to stay comfortable throughout the night. Look for one that is made of plush sheepskin and has elasticated skirts for a better fit.

Get in the mood for sleep

Lighting can make a tremendous difference in allowing you to have a comfortable, cosy sleep. Light can positively affect you. You could use fairy lights that are hanging around your room to evoke some soothing ambient light when it’s time to wind down. Sometimes, a candle or two to get you extra cosy.

Creating habit routines before you sleep can help contribute to a peaceful, perfect sleep. Whichever habit you go for will become sleep cues or reminders that it’s time to slow down and get some quiet sleep.
