The holidays, or any vacation for that matter, are a time for “too much” G&Ts, red wine and party punch. Which is fun until you wake up and realize your skin doesn’t look as great as it did before the festivities began. This is called hangover skin.

Hangover skin can happen after just one night have consuming too much alcohol. While you might prefer to stay in bed all day after a night out, your skin (and your mind) will thank you for following these steps to cure hangover skin.

Step 1: Clean up

Have a shower or bath and scrub away the previous night. Once you’ve cleaned your body, clean your face.

Using a mild cleanser, remove any traces of makeup, dirt, or impurities accumulated from the previous night. A hydrating cleanser will add to revitalising your skin, as it won’t strip away any more moisture.

Step 2: Massage your face

Boost your skin’s circulation by indulging in a gentle facial massage. Use your fingertips to apply light pressure in circular motions, focusing on areas that might feel tense or puffy. This massage technique helps in lymphatic drainage and encourages a healthy glow.

Remember to do this with your cleanser or a serum to avoid aggravating your skin.

Step 3: Exfoliate

A gentle exfoliation session can work wonders in sloughing off dead skin cells and reviving dull-looking skin. Choose a mild exfoliant suitable for your skin type to unclog pores and promote cell turnover. However, be cautious not to over-exfoliate, especially if your skin is sensitive due to dehydration.

Step 4: Re-hydrate your skin

Re-hydration is your next step. Not only will it help that headache, but it’ll boost your skin too.

Choose a hydrating serum or a facial mist infused with ingredients like hyaluronic acid to replenish moisture. These products help restore the skin’s hydration levels, giving your complexion a plumper and more radiant appearance.

Step 5: De-puff your eyes

Reduce puffiness and alleviate tired-looking eyes by placing cool cucumber slices or chilled tea bags over your closed eyelids. The cold temperature helps constrict blood vessels, reducing swelling and refreshing the delicate skin around your eyes.

Step 6: Moisturise

Finish off your hangover skincare routine with a nourishing and lightweight moisturizer. Choose a product that locks in moisture without feeling heavy on the skin. A good moisturizer aids in sealing in the hydration from previous steps and provides a protective barrier against environmental stressors.

Step 7: Relax

Now, you can either hop back into bed or take a chill day on the couch. Nothing helps refresh your skin and soul like a good rest day.
