While the digestion benefits that oatmeal consists of are no surprise,  many people can argue that if something that grows from nature has multiple nutritional benefits then it may also become highly advisable for skin care uses.

Here to confirm that is Medical News Today – a website that specializes in accurate medical – which states that ground oatmeal can be considered for skincare purposes as it acts as an “exfoliant, sloughing away dirt, oil, and dead skin cells. “

Medical News Today mentions that dermatologists often advise their clients to go for colloidal oatmeal for their skin which is the oatmeal that appears finer and seems like powder.

The secret components that are found in oatmeal that possess these skincare qualities are beta-glucan which aids in water and moisture absorption for skin hydration purposes and a form of antioxidant called phenols. One of the surprising qualities is that the saponin found in oatmeal enables oatmeal to have soap-like properties which means it could be used as a skin cleanser.

  • Cleanse

Oatmeal is a great cleanser as it removes excess oil. Not only will this leave your skin feeling soft, but it will also fight acne as it contains anti-inflammatory properties.

  • Exfoliate

If you are ready to say goodbye to dead skin cells and make way for glowing skin then exfoliating is your step. Oatmeal is a good exfoliator as it soothes one’s skin making it ideal for sensitive skin.

  • Hydration

Colloidal oatmeal is highly recommended for moisturising purposes as it helps protect skin barriers, and coming in handy with locking in the of moisture are the lipids that are present in oatmeal.

  • SPF

If you are one of those people who are tired of SPF leaving your skin feeling sticky, then colloidal oatmeal is for you. Adding a bit of this powder-like oatmeal to your SPF results in your skin not only feeling moisturised but also maintains skin protection.

  • After sun

With these extreme temperatures that summer comes with, oatmeal can be used in after-sun creams to form an ideal after-sun treatment. The high oxidant levels that are found in oatmeal help “replenish and repair the skin’s natural barriers after sun damage.”
