4 Reasons to part ways with your hairstylist

A good relationship with your hairstylist is one of the most important relationships to have, as there has to be a good understanding of what you, as a client, want, at that specific time. If the is anything that hinders a good understanding between you and your hairstylist, it might be time for you to try a different one.

Following are four reasons why you should consider dropping your hairstylist by Mamamia.

They are often hungover/shabby/not in a present state.

For a lot of women who work full-time and can only get to the salon on a Saturday, you’d think the best time to book an appointment would be the first thing when the stylist is ‘fresh,’ but not so. “Ten or 11 am is the best time as they’ve got a couple of haircuts under their belt by then and have probably ingested enough double espressos to shake off any shadiness,” says a friend of the publication.

They split-end shame you.

When you constantly get comments such as “Who cut your hair last?” or “Did you cut your own hair?”, these are signs that your hairstylist is not doing a good job. Haircuts are expensive, so if we’ve decided to have a go at some retro home hair-cutting maintenance or attempted to cut a fringe with kitchen shears after one too many drinks, that’s totally our prerogative. Paying for it is a big NO.

They just don’t get it.

It is important for your hairstylist to always get what you want for your hair every time you go see them. Being unable to understand your hair vision will frustrate you and create problems in your hair relationship.

They talk you out of a change because they clearly don’t have enough time to do it.

Hairstylists should always practice patience when dealing with clients. It is understandable that sometimes hairstylists can be under a lot of pressure from bookings, but extending some time to make sure a client is satisfied is a good way of retaining them. Celebrity hair and make-up artist Byron Turbull says, “If they rush you through and don’t give you your desired result, then it’s time to break up. Ideally, if a client needs an extended appointment, we would request the salon coordinator to move our schedules back 15 minutes. Just to allow that we get the best result with every client, every time.”
