Heartwarming Reunion: Zelda La Grange Celebrates Rachel Kolisi’s Strength

In a touching display of admiration and friendship, Zelda La Grange, former private secretary to Nelson Mandela and popular kykNET presenter, recently paid tribute to Rachel Kolisi, South Africa’s revered “first lady” of rugby. Their long-overdue reunion was more than just a catch-up—it was a celebration of Kolisi’s enduring impact, not only as a mother and public figure but as an inspiration to everyone around her.

La Grange shared her reflections on Facebook, beginning with a light-hearted compliment: “She just gets prettier by the day.” But her post quickly unfolded into a deeper acknowledgment of Kolisi’s unwavering strength and generosity.

A Mother’s Strength on Full Display

Revisiting the first time they met during the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England, La Grange recalled being struck by Kolisi’s effortless care for her young son, Nicholas. “For the entire 5-6 hours at the stadium, she carried Nic in her arms. He was asleep most of the time. I admired her physical strength to carry a big boy around like that. My back ached just looking at it. It was clear that she was to be a dedicated and wonderful mother,” La Grange wrote.

But it wasn’t just Kolisi’s physical stamina that impressed her. La Grange emphasized the “most striking thing” about Kolisi: her genuine care for others, even strangers. Her ability to stop mid-conversation to help anyone in need reflects a rare compassion that continues to touch lives across South Africa.

A Tribute That Resonates

The Facebook post quickly drew admiration from fans. Jessica Singh called Kolisi “a gorgeous woman who will be stronger than ever” and predicted a future of soaring success. Deborah Mosime praised her as a “woman of power,” noting her heart of compassion, while Erika de Bruyn highlighted the remarkable nature of both women.

La Grange herself recently celebrated another milestone for the Kolisi family—Springboks captain Siya Kolisi’s 100th rugby cap. She praised him for uniting South Africans, echoing the sense of belonging and hope that Nelson Mandela championed. “You have created belonging just like Madiba did. I so wish he could see you fly this high,” she said.

A Fresh Perspective on Everyday Heroes

In a country often focused on headline achievements, La Grange’s tribute is a reminder that true heroism also lies in quiet acts of love and care. Rachel Kolisi exemplifies that balance: excelling in public life while nurturing her family and extending kindness to those around her. In celebrating her strength, La Grange offers a poignant reflection on what it means to lead with heart.

For many South Africans, this tribute is not just about admiration—it’s a celebration of resilience, compassion, and the enduring impact of everyday acts of kindness.
