South African Amapiano DJ and producer, Maphorisa stirred a social media debate when he responded to a claim that Davido put Amapiano on the map.

The DJ took to Twitter to rubbish claims that Davido shined a light on the popular genre when a fan claimed that he had brought Amapiano to Nigeria and thus being the reason for it’s major success in the continent.

Responding to the fan he said, ‘Kabza & Maphorisa was the first to put Wizkid and Burnaboy on and amapiano song Sponono that was a historical moment three years ago, research before you tweet also it was the first time Wiz and Burna jumped on a same song together let it sink in. ‘

In the past years, the Amapiano genre has taken the world by storm, and seeing many local DJ’s and artists gracing international stages and receiving global recognition.

Davido then responded by saying ‘You’ve never liked me, why? I’ve always been good to you. Anyways!’

Tweeps have also weighed in on the twitter debate.

? Davido like beef walahi.

Man turned Dj Maphorisa setting the record straight to “you never liked me” ?‍♂️

But Fr na Wizkid X Burna first jump on AMAPIANO before anybody for Naija Music industry with SPONONO.

I don’t get why that should even be a problem.

While Davido didn’t import Amapiano into Nigeria, his decision to get on the remix of Focalistic’s ‘K-Star’ played a decisive role in popularizing the genre in Nigeria.

After ‘K-Star’, it was straight up Amapiano season.

Big ups to Zinoleesky as well.
