Weekend recap: Kenny Kunene resigns as Transport MMC

The matter involving the Patriotic Alliance’s suspended deputy president Kenny Kunene continues to develop. He has handed over his resignation as PA Councillor and Transport MMC with immediate effect.

One can only imagine how much Kenny Kunene wishes he could turn back the hands of time, and possibly do things differently. Perhaps the trajectory of his life and career would have seen a different course, and he would not have to face a career-threatening scandal.

This comes after he handed in his resignation from his role as a councillor, and as a Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) after the authorities unexpectedly found him at Katiso ‘KT’ Molefe’s home when they came to arrest him for his involvement in the horrific 2022 DJ Sumbody shooting.

When clarifying his presence at the murder suspect’s home, Kunene explained that he had taken a journalist to cover a story for his online news publication. However, it is safe to say that his story did not leave members of the public convinced, and the Democratic Alliance (DA) has since referred to the explanation as ‘laughable’.

The matter continues to be a hot topic across social media platforms, as citizens attempt to make sense of the complex puzzle unraveled by Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi when he alleged a deep syndicate involving some significant political and law enforcement officials.

Questions regarding whether or not Kunene ties into the brutal killing of DJ Sumbody, which some believe was related to the syndicate alleged by KZN’s top cop, have continued to surface as the public attempts to make sense of everything.
