‘We don’t want you’ – Siv Ngesi after Piers Morgan jokes on wanting to be South African

After the recent success of the South African men’s cricket team, the Proteas, at the ICC World Test Championship, a lot more eyes have shifted to the country in the Southern part of the African continent.

The victory comes at a time when the state of our local sports codes is the best that it has been in a long time. In recent times, it was not only cricket that dominated, but so did Rayno Nel, who clinched his place as the World Strongest Man, Mamelodi Sundowns competing at the Fifa Club World Cup, Women’s Rugby dominating and winning the Africa Cup, and our athletics team being back to winning ways.

All of these have, over the last few months, just reinforced the slogan, “No DNA, Just RSA”.

Following the Proteas’ crowning as champions, the renowned British journalist and media personality, Piers Morgan, had his say on the success.

Piers has had close relations with several South Africans, with one of the current prominent stars being rugby World Cup winner, Damian Willemse. Last year, the two were seen posing for pictures when Piers invited the 27-year-old to a cocktail event hosted in the UK.

As of late, he has also been heavily opinionated on the current political affairs of the country, as well as the recent tensions with America.

Oh come off it, Mr President – it’s literally a threat, and incitement, to kill. https://t.co/1csC2sAmdo

However, when it comes to sport, he maintained his humorous side. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the prominent Piers jokingly hinted that he might want to consider becoming South African.

For the next 2 hours, I am South African. #Lords 🇿🇦

The post has since sparked mixed reactions with many appreciating his support, while comedian Siv Ngesi had a different opinion.

Responding to the post, he wrote: “We don’t want you!”

Meanwhile, Piers has since received the comment lightheartedly by simply revealing that he brought the Proteas luck.
