The family of renowned musician Oupa Sefako, affectionately known as DJ Sumbody, has finally broken their silence following a breakthrough in the 2022 murder.
This past week has brought a sigh of relief, while also igniting more curiosity into exactly who is responsible for the murder of the prominent DJ.
This comes after police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe recently confirmed that four people have been arrested, one of whom is businessman Katiso “KT” Molefe, who was captured at his Sandton home on Monday.
The breakthrough in the case comes at a time when the family admitted to struggling to find closure, as the pursuit of justice previously appeared to be a dead end.
Last year, the DJ’s brother Koketso expressed frustration, adding that the family has struggled to find closure.
“It’s not easy, because we haven’t found closure as the case is still pending and a lot of things are happening,” Koketso said, “But we’re moving on.”
Meanwhile, it now appears that their prayers to get answers have finally been heard. In the wake of the recent arrests, the family has since released a statement sharing their thoughts on the matter.
“While this development marks a critical step towards justice, the family is reliving the trauma of his untimely passing and requests privacy and space during this difficult time.”
“We extend our deepest gratitude to the South African Police Service, particularly the Gauteng organised crime unit and the political task team, for their relentless efforts in pursuing justice,” the family expressed in their statement.
“The dedication of law enforcement has been instrumental in this case, and we remain hopeful for a thorough legal process.”
Furthermore, they thanked the supporters of the late DJ, as well as the Be A Sumbody Foundation for their unwavering love and prayers, highlighting that it has been their main source of strength during this difficult time.
Following a brief court appearance on Tuesday, the case has now been postponed for further investigation.
