Castle Milk Stout recently celebrated Ancestor’s Day, a day that was firstly announced in 2021, with hopes for the government to turn May 8th into a public holiday in  honour of those in the ancestry practice and beliefs.

Among those who attended the event were a few mzansi celebrities who have openly shared their journey on ubungoma (traditional healing practice).

Attendees included, actor Wiseman Ncube, television show host and celebrity sangoma Gogo Dineo, Big Brother South Africa season 3 winner and reality TV star, Mpho Wabadimo and many more.

Chatting on his ancestral calling’s journey, Wiseman shared that he is fully aware of his gift and calling and does not engage in talks that aim to question his belief as he is fully aware and content with who he is.

Speaking to the attendees he said:

“Like I said when I started, this is a very emotional day because, looking from where I come from, to where I am today, I will honestly say, if my ancestor wasn’t there, I wouldn’t be here on earth.”

He added that the only people he listens to, are the ones who gave him the gift, and no one can tell him otherwise.

“When I come across struggles, I go to my hut ngiziphahlele (an act of speaking to the ancestors using impepho and other things) and speak to them directly,” said the award-winning actor.

He also noted that as a young man, when he discovered he had a calling he was in denial and ran from it, like any other youngster would. He shared that while busy with his initiation process into ubungoma after he accepted the calling, he had a revelation that came through his grandmother.

In the revelation, his grandmother told him to move his mother from Ulundi to Vryheid (a town in northern KZN), where they needed to relocate to.

They saw a place in Vryheid didn’t have the money for it as he was still in training to become isangoma. The actor shares that his late grandmother came back in a revelation asking why they were taking long to move, and he shared they didn’t have money.

He recalled getting a call in the morning from the white man they had spoken to in Vryheid who said they can bring whatever amount they had and gave them the place.

This is one of the things that he noted which he believed was his ancestor’s doing.

Speaking of his role in Shaka Ilembe he said he knows why he had to be in the cast as that is a way for him to honour his ancestors adding that every role that he has portrayed has had links with the underground gang.

The video was shared by entertainment commentator and media personality Phil Mphela on his X (former Twitter).
