WATCH: Somizi clarifies late Mbongeni Ngema’s text to him

by Bongiwe Mati

Flamboyant media personality and CEO of Sompire kids clothing line, Somizi Mhlongo became a trending topic after he shared a message from the late singer and playwriter Mbongeni Ngema to him a few days ago.

Mbongeni died in a car accident on his way back from attending a funeral in the Eastern Cape’s Lusikisiki on December 27th.

After hearing the news of the music icon’s passing, Somizi shared the text that he received from the Sarafina producer sometime before he passed.

After seeing the text, social media users picked up that the message was sent by the former IdolsSA judge to himself. The message’s content painted the appreciation that Mbongeni had for the father of one, adding that he is always there for him without an ask.

In a video shared on his social media platforms Somizi responded clarifying that he thought he had forwarded the message a group called Mbongeni’s tribute with all the Sarafina cast members, only to later realise that he had forwarded it back to the sender, Mbongeni.

He added that the next morning, he just went to Mbongeni’s chat and shared the text without realising that it is the one he forwarded back to the late originator. He also noted that he understands how it looks like he sent himself the message asking social media users to share their comments after hearing his explanation.
