Watch: Paul Mashatile’s social life in the spotlight after viral video

A recently leaked video of Deputy President Paul Mashatile has surfaced on X (formerly Twitter), showing him surrounded by friends and young women at what appears to be a resort.

The footage, which depicts a relaxed and lively atmosphere, has sparked mixed reactions online.

Some users defended Paul, arguing that he has the right to unwind like anyone else. One user commented:”So the Deputy President is not allowed to have fun? Haibo Nina guys.”

In the video, Paul is seen dancing and singing alongside his companions, including his second wife, Humilo Mjongile. He married Humilo following the passing of his first wife, Manzi Ellen Mashatile.

However, not everyone shares this lenient perspective. Critics argue that, given the current state of the country, the sight of a senior ANC leader enjoying himself so publicly is inappropriate.

Some accuse him of neglecting his responsibilities, with one user commenting:”Him and all those that enjoy taxpayer funds while millions in SA go hungry will get their due rewards soon or in the next life… Easy come, easy go.”

Adding to the debate, the Chief Leader of Land Part SA expressed concern over Paul’s conduct, saying: “Those who defend Paul Mashatile must understand that he is no longer just Paul from Alexandra, but the Deputy President of the Republic. His social habits must change. South Africa is currently under attack, and he could be poisoned through food or drinks without anyone knowing who is responsible, because he is too accessible and fraternises with civilians.

“I have stated that he is not presidential material, not simply because he drinks alcohol and spends time with women, but because his exposure makes him an easy target. It’s time for our leaders to realise they are being targeted and to take the current global developments seriously.”
