WATCH: Helen Zille kicks off Randall Abrahams’ gritty new podcast

by Staff Bona

Randall Abrahams has officially stepped into the world of political podcasting with the launch of Both Sides, which aired its first episode on eNCA on Sunday, 24 August.

According to IOL, the show aims to move past soundbites and create space for nuanced conversations around South Africa’s most pressing issues.

“‘Both Sides’ is a space for strong claims backed by clear reasoning. We slow the pace and push past soundbites so audiences can then judge ideas on their merits,” Randall explained.

The debut episode featured DA Federal Council Chairperson Helen Zille, who tackled topics ranging from South Africa’s policing crisis to local governance challenge.

Helen outlined her proposed strategy for stabilising Johannesburg, including restoring service delivery, rebuilding the rates base, and re-establishing execution capacity, eNCA reported.

She also signalled her willingness to serve as Johannesburg mayor, if her party approves.

[COMING UP] Welcome to a space where no opinion walks away unchallenged. This is Both Sides with TV personality and radio presenter Randall Abrahams. Sharp, unscripted and unafraid. No filter, No pretense. Watch it on Sunday, 24 August at 12pm on https://t.co/srSwp4HDwU pic.twitter.com/nOsySbr2it

As reported by TshisaLIVE, Abrahams described the show’s style as “trading glitter for grit,” with conversations designed to challenge both the guest and the audience.

Helen also addressed broader national issues, including constitutional accountability, economic growth, and the risks posed by artificial intelligence to widening inequality.

The podcast is presented in a moody, jazz-lounge setting that reflects Abrahams’ intent to strip away performance and encourage candour. “We are bringing a different kind of political dialogue—one where ideas matter more than spectacle,” Randall told eNCA.
