Following a shooting incident that could have ended in a tragedy, renowned actor Vuyo Dabula has officially returned to the world of acting and storytelling.
With a resume that showcases his work across various South African productions, some of which include shows like Queen Sono, Unseen, and Generations: The Legacy, Vuyo can now be spotted portraying the role of Saul on the latest Showmax series The Butcher’s Soul.
The actor has been absent from the world of acting for nearly two years after he was shot in 2022. Earlier this year he told the news and entertainment publication Sunday World, that he used the rest of that year as well as the entire 2023 focusing on his recovery and discovering newfound passions.
Many of his days included attending sessions with his physiotherapist and spending time in the gym as a form of rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, he recently spoke to the entertainment publication Daily Sun to speak more about his role as Saul and how he became comfortable working with guns, especially after his traumatic experience.
“Holding a gun on set didn’t make me feel weird. I know a bit about guns, and as long as I knew they were empty, I could handle them without any issues. Even the detective, played by Howza, walks around with a gun. I would pick up his gun, provided it was safe.
“Maybe if I play a character who gets shot, I might experience flashbacks or feel shaken. In this project, I was given the role of an aggressor. I’m the one causing pain, so there wasn’t any room for fear,” he explained.

Speaking more about his character, he described Saul as being a capitalist-driven by his love for wealth and money.
“There’s always a thin line between a capitalist and a gangster. Capitalists can be soulless and money-driven and easily trample upon others. That’s reality. Initially, Saul starts as a good guy, who believes in a product, but this lands himself and his team in trouble,” he explained.
