Vusi Nova wins best male artist at xhosa music awards

by Samantha Mochele

South African afro-pop singer Vusi Nova real name Vusimuzi Nongxa, has been honoured with the prestigious Best Male Artist of Democracy award at the Xhosa Music Awards ceremony held at the Artscape in Cape Town.

Despite being unable to attend the event due to other gigs, Vusi expressed his excitement and appreciation in an interview with TshisaLIVE.

“It feels amazing and I’m honoured. Couldn’t be there because I had gigs in the Eastern Cape, but in spirit, I was there. Thank you to the Xhosa Music Awards and everyone who voted and has been supporting me since day one. Ndiyabulela(I’m grateful).”

Vusi Nova was nominated alongside fellow talented artists Ntando, Nathi and Bethusile.

The Xhosa Music Awards, themed “African” celebrated 30 years of democracy in South Africa. The event honoured the rich cultural heritage and musical talent within the Xhosa community, recognising artists who have made significant contributions to the music industry.

In addition to his recent win, the publication mentioned that Vusi has had to address false reports about his well-being. He denied the rumours of his involvement in a car crash last month, expressing heartbreak over the misinformation. He added that these rumours had caused concern among his family and friends.

“People are malicious, I’ve been receiving calls from my friends locally and internationally checking how I’m doing since I was involved in a car accident[..]Imagine being involved in an accident, which you were not, it’s not funny. It’s like declaring [a] person dead while they are not. I assure my fans I’m doing well and [there] wasn’t an accident,” he said.
