Former Big Brother Mzansi housemate and runner-up of season five Umlilo edition, Uyanda Hlangabezo received a heroes’ welcome from his supporters at Chief Dawid Stuurman International Airport, Gqeberha.

This follows after he travelled from Johannesburg to Gqeberha after he reached the top 2 in Big Brother Mzansi. The Hlangabezo family and their fanbase, proudly known as honey badgers, filled the airport with songs while they waited for Uyanda to arrive.

Eventually, he arrived and was escorted by the police for safety and to avoid a stampede, as there were many people waiting for him. The pedagogical practitioner from Gqeberha made a stop and expressed his gratitude to everyone who took time to welcome him at the airport. During his speech, he said the Big Brother platform is known to be for creatives and not teachers, and when he entered the show, he wanted to break that and prove that no matter where you are from and what you do for a living, you can still audition and reach the final stages.

While waiting for Uyanda, his supporters sang wholesome songs that he would sing alone in the house. The airport arrivals were filled with unity, love and joy. The 24-year-old made a name for himself and his original town, Engcobo, he is loved and popular for the phrases he used in the house such as ‘chaat’, ‘you don’t scare me – awundothusi,’ ‘you alone’ and ‘I want them one by one; some were reminded of these phrases upon seeing him and would shout them at him, with the hope that he says it back.
