
South Africa’s most glamorous and celebrated event, the 7th Royalty Soapie Awards, the excitement is palpable. In just a few days, the nation will come together to honour the best in the soapie industry, recognising the talent, dedication and creativity that have graced our screens over the past year.
But before the glitz and glamour of the awards night that will take place on 24 August at the Heartfield Arena, Pretoria, let’s take a moment to meet the panel of judges who will be making the tough decisions this year.
Zinzi Zungu is an actress with over 13 years of experience in the television and broadcasting industry, According to the Durban Film Mart, Zinzi is a force to be reckoned with. As a multi-talented creative and businesswoman, she manages and owns SQ Talent Management, an agency dedicated to nurturing young talent aiming to break into the media and entertainment industries. She is also the driving force behind Star Quality Creative Arts College, which offers an accredited performing arts training course from Cathsseta and a film and television diploma from Mictseta.
Mimi Mahlasela is a household name in South Africa, best known for her role as Aggie Ngwenya-Meintjies in the popular show 7de Laan and Shaka Ilembe.
According to YouthVillage, the panel of judges also includes a diverse group of talented individuals from the industry. Among them is Daniel Masetla, an actor and director with several projects under his belt. In addition to acting and directing, Daniel is a skilled camera operator, cinematographer and drone operator. Another judge, Jabulani Phambana, is a seasoned producer, director, writer and actor based in Johannesburg, with 13 years of experience in the industry. Lastly, Dennis Tsotetsi brings over two years of experience in media production, specialising in broadcasting, voice acting, film and documentaries.
