Unathi Nkayi will no longer be the ‘bigger person’

We are often told to be “the bigger person” when in situations that seek to show disrespect towards us, made to choose peace instead of returning what the next person is giving you.

Well, being the bigger person or taking the higher road is what singer and media personality Unathi Nkayi has decided not to do anymore.

For many years Unathi has suffered disrespect from internet users who often made nasty comments, by choosing to be the bigger person and responding in a way “the bigger person” is expected to respond.

Currently embroiled in a legal battle with Johannesburg based radio station Kaya959 for unlawfully dismissal that occurred in 2021 the media personality had promised us a documentary on the proceeds of the legal matter.

Recently through her social media, the mother of two detailed how she was no longer going to give the reaction that is expected from her, but choosing to do whatever she feels like doing in a situation that warrants a reaction.

Unathi shared:

“I must confess, during the latter half of last year I decided I wasn’t going to be the bigger person neither was I going to continue taking the higher road.
It has caused complete chaos on the outside but has brought me immense peace on the inside. To be honest, I told very few people that this is my new stance namely my parents because this is what they have expected of me my entire life.”

Expressing how those around had struggled with her change, she shared:

“At first things were hard for some people in my life, from different spheres of my life because you know it brings peace to be the bigger person. BUT lately I have either chosen a VOK VOK attitude or I completely refuse to return any energy that offends me at all in the name of ‘I won’t reward bad behaviour’.”

Clearly enjoying doing the liberation of not caring about being the bigger person, the Ndiyazithanda Mna hitmaker added:

“It’s been a beautiful journey for me and a tough journey for some who have come used to the facilitator, peace maker in me. I realise this because they have to say goodbye to a version of me they liked. I get that.”

“But right now and forever futhi KUMNANDI kwa (it’s nice to be at) VOK VOK okanye kwa ANDIZI (or not do anything).”
