Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture has won the hearts of many South Africans after a wholesome moment between him and Unathi Nkayi is currently making rounds on social media.

The South African ministry recently hosted a brunch dedicated to honouring some of mzansi’s greatest living legends. Tasked with hosting and heartwarming soiree was TV and radio host Unathi Nkayi, who reflected on what an honour it was to be trusted to curate a suitable atmosphere for the pioneers of South African entertainment.

Minister Gayton McKenzie was also tasked with presenting a speech, where he revealed that the icons would be provided with a financial stipend for 2025 as well as an additional Christmas present which would also be in financial form.

However, the moment that captured mzansi’s attention was the minister’s kind words towards Unathi, as he spoke life into her future, assuring her that he would use his power to ensure that she blossoms in the industry. This comes after Unathi was involved in controversy surrounding her former workplace Kaya 959 and Sizwe Dhlomo, which resulted in her ostracisation among her peers.

This wholesome moment triggered an emotional reaction from the singer as she took in the minister’s affirming words.

However, some users as well as controversial figure Ntsiki Mazwai have highlighted the lack of accountability from Unathi as it was revealed that she had been dishonest about the incident between herself and Sizwe Dhlomo when they were colleagues on Kaya 959, after a recording of their conversation surfaced. These users encourage people to remember the debacle that led to Unathi’s subsequent ostracisation.

No guys……we literally heard live audio and saw Unathi lying about another man. In a country that struggles with GBV and men using false allegations to protect themselves.

Unathi has never stood for other women and yet she was able to weaponise the GBV to manipulate.
