Tyla becomes first African solo artist to join the ‘1 billion Spotify streams’ club

Another day, another massive Tyla milestone, as the young South African superstar continues to prove that there is no stopping her shine. For her smash hit ‘Water,’ she became the first and latest African solo artist to reach 1 billion Spotify streams.

Although Tyla Seethal started making music way before that, it is safe to say that her global hit ‘Water’ is where it all began for the youngster and has taken her to unthinkable heights. She continues to shatter expectations and records set by her predecessors, taking her one step closer to realising her dream of becoming the biggest pop star in the world, as a girl from little old South Africa.

At the tender age of 23, the piano princess has shown that the only competition she has in the industry is herself, as she becomes the first African solo artist to accumulate 1 billion Spotify streams for a record.

Since being trusted into the limelight in 2023 after ‘Water’ went viral on TikTok and then the rest of the world, Tyla has capitalised on and taken advantage of all the eyes that are on her by consistently providing her fans with something new to talk about, whether it be new music, visuals, various shows, or just a visible social media presence where her fans can interact with her.

She continues to remain extremely booked and extremely busy as she not only was recently a guest at the popular Jennifer Hudson Show and the latest British Vogue cover start but also dropped an unexpected Push 2 Start remix featuring the one and only certified hitmaker Sean Paul, and bagged herself a Nike endorsement deal, with plans to potentially work on a signature shoe. Furthermore, the youngster revealed another collaboration with Sean Paul, which has gotten her fans from across the globe extremely excited for what’s to come for her.

Her continued success and rise to superstardom have been a sight to marvel at for both her fans and foes and have made quite the spectacle in the process. She has embodied and personified what it means to be a global superstar, and although she has admitted to the challenges and difficulty of it all, she has carried herself with grace and handled things better than some of her predecessors, especially considering how young she is.
