This past weekend was one for the books in the running world; the Two Oceans Marathon was epic.

Before sunrise on Saturday, April 11, and Sunday April 12, runners set off in waves to start the 2026 Two Oceans Marathon in Cape Town, South Africa. The front of the race catapulted off the start line, with both Saturday and Sunday’s events going well.

The weather forecast was cloudy on Saturday, but that didn’t deter the runners, and although the scenery was breathtaking, the runners were excited and willing to continue.

The Two Oceans Marathon is often regarded as the most beautiful marathon in the world, drawing visitors from across the globe. In this year’s race, it was two South African runners who claimed the top positions in both the men’s and women’s events.

56 fast kilometres later, South Africa’s Gerda Steyn won the women’s race in 3:27:43 and Arthur Jantjies, also of the home country, took the men’s win in 3:09:25.

Speaking to the media Arthur said “It’s a phenomenal step – a big step. It’s history,” “I’m just a small-town boy winning Two Oceans. That’s something really special.”

This was Arthur’s second ultramarathon after claiming sixth position at the 2025 City to City Marathon.

Sunday’s half-marathon was also a tremendous one; the 21-kilometre race attracted more than 30,000 athletes.
Scores of runners embarked on the 56-kilometre Ultra Marathon on Saturday.

With foreign athletes, Felix Kibet Masai of Kenya won the men’s race in the fastest time since 2017 (the current course has been in use since 2012), while Namibia’s Lavina Haitope dominated the women’s race to produce the biggest victory of her road running career.
