Tributes pour in for the late actress Connie Chiume: ‘RIP Diva!’

South African fans are floored following the passing of veteran SA actress Connie Chiume. The Black Panther star died shortly after being admitted to hospital.

An Instagram post issued by Connie’s family stated the Gomora actress, 72, passed away at the Garden City Hospital.

Thousands of tributes have poured in for the Welkom-born actress and TV personality.

Soon after her untimely death was announced, the South African government shared their condolences with her family and friends. “Our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of multi-award-winning and legendary actress Connie Chiume. Her outstanding work will always be remembered.”

Former talk show host Felicia Mabuza-Suttle sang Connie’s praises and shared a clip of the actress appearing on her eponymous talk show many years ago. “Sad to learn about the passing of an icon & legend #ConnieChiume.

“Brought back these words she said on the #FeliciaShow. She said, ‘I didn’t come here for glamour or money. I believe in this thing called, ‘a calling.’ God has called me to be where I am.’ Profound. RIP Diva!”

Actor Spaces gave Connie her flowers and thanked the late actress for her remarkable contribution to the industry. “A Curtain Call to Legendary multi-award winning Actor and Arts Activist mam’Connie Chiume.

“Your remarkable contributions to our industry and powerful performances worldwide have left an everlasting imprint.

“We will always remember and honour your impact.”

While it is not known what the cause of death is as of yet, the Chiume family stated that they would communicate further details at a later stage.
