Tributes pour in for Peter ‘Mashata’ Mabuse

Hundreds of tributes have poured in for the late comedian and DJ Peter ‘Mashata’ Mabuse following the news of his passing in the early hours of Sunday morning. 

In reports by multiple news publications including Daily Sun, it is revealed that the musician along with a friend were shot while driving in Pretoria just after midnight. 

Police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza revealed that a case of murder and attempted murder had been opened following the shooting of the two men. 

“One victim died in hospital while the other was injured. The two victims were driving near TUT [Tshwane University of Technology] in Soshanguve when shots were fired at their vehicle. The suspects fled and police are following several leads,” said Noxolo. 

Peter died in hospital while the other victim was left wounded. 

Aside from his career in the music scenes, Peter was well known as a radio personality, and a regular stadium announcer at Mamelodi Sundowns home matches. 

His passing sent shockwaves throughout the entertainment industry with many of his industry peers, friends, and fans sharing their condolences on social media.

MC and DJ Peter “Mashata” Mabuse was playing his last set at Epozini Lounge.

His employers Mamelodi Sundowns also shared their well wishes to the family of Peter. 

In a statement, they wrote: “The chairman and the Motsepe family, the board of directors, technical team, players, management, staff, supporters of Mamelodi Sundowns FC, and the entire Yellow Nation, express their deepest condolences to the family and friends as we mourn the loss of the multi-talented Peter “Mashata” Mabuse, who served as an announcer at the Mamelodi Sundowns games.”

“We pray that the almighty comforts and strengthens the Mabuse family, his fans, friends, and colleagues in the entertainment industry.”

Meanwhile, a statement released by his manager Gugu Ngubeni stated: “The family is appreciative of all the messages of support and condolences that have started to flow in and humbly request that they be given the space and time to deal with the trauma.” 

Updates regarding his memorial and funeral are expected to be communicated throughout the week.
