Tito Mboweni confuses lamb with beef after showing off his stew

Just like he was mixing all of his ingredients for his pot of stew, South Africa’s former Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni, mixed up his words when he showed social media users his “lamb” dish recipe using beef.

Always one to show how he throws it down in the kitchen, Tito shared a few images of the ingredients he used, as well as the protein boldly labelled “beef.” However, the politician, who tweeted from his home in Makgoebaskoof, confused the beef for another popular protein, writing that it was a good idea to prepare “a lamb stew.”

Sharing an update on the meal and still not realising his blunder, he wrote again, “Now we are good to go! On your marks, get set and go! Lamb stew tonight!”

In true South African Twitter (now known as X) fashion, users of the app commented on Tito’s mistake.

One person asked, “At what stage of cooking does beef turn into lamb?!”

Another person said, “The Wizard of Makgoebaskoof. He changed beef into lamb. I honestly believe you should be taken to ICJ [International Court of Justice] for all your culinary crimes. As a continent, we are tired.”

Finally realising his mistake, Tito posted a few snaps of his plated food. “It is actually a beef, not lamb stew. Nice,” he wrote.
