Tired of being indoors? Here is a list of activities to experience this Youth Day

Youth Day is fast approaching, a day in which millions of South Africans celebrate as we observe the journey we have travelled from the dark past of apartheid and the endless opportunities we now possess. 

With the 16 of June being marked as an official public holiday, the last thing one would want to do is stay indoors and in front of the television. We live in a country where there is so much to do and lots to explore, and now is perhaps the best time to be a tourist in your own town or city. 

To spare you the time researching where to go and what to do this Youth Day, we have created an adventurous itinerary that will ensure that you have a whole list of options no matter where in the country you may find yourself. 

Cape Town 

District Six Museum 

Visit the District Six Museum, where you can expand your knowledge on the forced removals of coloured people during apartheid. 

Long March to Freedom tour 

Those residing in Cape Town can experience the “Long March to Freedom” guided tour at Canal Walk, where you can see an exhibition of 100 life-sized bronze statues of iconic men and women, including the likes of Nelson Mandela and Johnny Clegg. Tours will be free of charge this weekend. 

Johannesburg 

Mandela House 

Get a glimpse into the life of one of our country’s iconic figures, such as the late Nelson Mandela, and get insights into how he lived. The Mandela house carries a rich history of the traumatic past, yet provides so much insight into how the late Tata’s character was built.
