“They have got a grocery store!” – these were the comments made by the American actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish after she expressed excitement after discovering what a local mall looks like on her recent travels to Zimbabwe.

The clip shows her roaming through the various aisles. She gives her followers a close look at what a grocery store in Harare looks like and places emphasis on the fact that it is a store in Africa.

With the video going viral on social media platforms, many shared their opinions on the matter with some accusing the Night School star of underestimating how much the African continent has developed.

In the comment section one user asked: “Damn where do these people think we live?” – while another pointed out that Africa is no longer a place where we ride on donkeys or go out hunting for food.

Following the continuous criticism, Tiffany responded to those coming at her in the comment section and shed some light on her intention with the video.

When one user asked whether she thought that Africans eat grass, she responded by highlighting how she aimed to create awareness of the true Africa, different from what the media portrays.

She wrote: “No. But the media had me thinking all of your foods are purchased in outdoor markets with goats and cows just hanging out waiting to be slaughtered. With all kinds of smells and flies everywhere.”
