Gospel singer Thinah Zungu has announced that he is stepping away from reality television, following what he describes as public backlash over his recent appearances and participation in the genre.

The singer, known for his powerful worship music and strong gospel following, has reportedly decided to close this chapter of his television career and refocus on his music and personal life.

Decision follows public reaction

According to reports, Thinah’s decision comes after facing criticism on social media, where viewers expressed mixed reactions to his involvement in reality programming. The backlash reportedly influenced his decision to distance himself from the format going forward.

While details of the criticism vary across platforms, the conversation highlighted the ongoing scrutiny public figures face when stepping outside their usual professional roles. Speaking to Daily Sun, the Nginguthandiwe hitmaker revealed that he received a backlash after his 2025 Mzansi Magic reality show Thina Singo Zungu, where he appeared with a popular inyanga Dr Khehlelezi. Thinah further revealed that he faced isolation from churches, cancelled gigs, and accusations of using black magic

Focus shifts back to music

Thinah is expected to redirect his energy toward gospel music projects, where he has built a strong reputation in South Africa’s faith-based music scene. Fans have largely supported his decision, encouraging him to continue focusing on his ministry and musical career.

Reality TV, however, appears to be off the table for now as he prioritises his core artistic work.

A broader conversation about celebrity and reality TV

The situation has also sparked broader discussion about how celebrities are received when joining reality television, with some viewers questioning expectations placed on public figures.
