‘They tried to extort me out of R300,000’ – Phat Joe candid about Sea Point eviction

by Sergio Miller

Television and radio presenter Phat Joe has recently brought more clarity on the recent speculation of his eviction from his apartment in Cape Town’s Sea Point.

Last month the former Real Goboza host was at the centre of headlines after News24 reported that the 49-year-old was evicted from the luxury seaside apartment after failing to pay his rent from as far back as November 2022.

According to reports, the outstanding payments have since accumulated to R600 000.

This resulted in the Western Cape High Court later handing the presenter, whose real name is Majota Khambule an eviction order stating that he should pack his belongings by 31 May.

He and his wife Palesa Morgan have meanwhile left the property on the 19th April.

In a new interview on Podcast and Chill with MacG, Phat Joe provided his side of the story. He shared that he and his family had lived in the apartment for at least three years with no problems until the landlord tried to extort him.

“For three years I stayed there with no problems. They tried to extort me out of R300 000. I said no. A dispute began at that point over a year ago. That dispute evolved into gunmen breaking into my house, all types of court cases, and now they are taking pictures of my daughter and publishing it online. I’m truly in a fight,” he said.

As far as being evicted, Phat Joe says that this is not true.

Instead, he claims that after winning in court, they were asked for a settlement to which both parties agreed.

“The settlement was we would vacate the place at the end of May or by 1st June. Then both parties, through our lawyers went to high court and made it an order of the court. There was no eviction. They said they kicked us out on the streets. That’s not true as well.”
