‘They don’t want us to come to parliament during the SONA,’ says Julius Malema

It is just two days before the State of the Nation Address (SONA) is meant to take place in parliament, Cape Town.

The SONA is an address to the citizens of the Republic of South Africa by the president to mark the legislature’s official opening. Almost all the political parties represented in parliament attend this political event.

In the past couple of years since its formation, the political party Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) disrupted proceedings in parliament, leading to a bloody scene at some point.

The party is currently suspended from parliament for disrupting President Cyril Ramaphosa at last year’s SONA by getting on stage.

Recently addressing a crowd of people, the EFF Commander-in-Chief, Julius Malema, shared:

In parliament there we fight like nobody’s business because we are fighting for you. Now they’ve blocked us, they don’t want us to come to parliament during the State of the Nation, because Ramaphosa is scared of the EFF. He’s trying to suppress the EFF by all means because EFF exposes their corruption.

“So, we are going to fight to get in that State of the Nation Address. Once we get inside, when Ramaphosa stands up, I also stand up on point of order because he must be held accountable for Phalaphala. For the corruption that is taking place in this country, and for the high unemployment among young people.”
