‘These are peoples kids, fathers’ – Cassper on gun violence in SA

by Sergio Miller

Renowned rapper Cassper Nyovest has come out extremely critical at the rate at which some South Africans are losing their lives as a result of gun violence in the country.

The comes after recent news which confirmed the passing of DJ and Mamelodi Sundowns stadium announcer Peter “Mashata” Mabuse, who was shot in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Last year saw the death of Kiernan Forbes, and DJ Somebody while Kaizer Chiefs footballer Luke Fleurs lost his life in a hijacking incident.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) timeline, Cassper said that it is no longer safe to have fun outside anymore, he would rather stay in his home and watch a movie instead.

“We are only safe in God’s hands,” he added.

“Gun violence in South Africa is just scary. These are people’s kids, fathers, brothers and sisters who are senselessly getting killed. Criminals have realised they can do as they wish and nothing is being done about it.”

Many took to the comments to share the same sentiments.

Some added that the government needs to intervene by creating more jobs so that crime can be reduced in our streets.

Another user commented that the responsibility of keeping our country safe rests on the South African Police Services (SAPS).

Earlier this year Cassper announced that he had decided to turn his life around by embracing his faith.

The singer has been vocal about his spiritual journey lately and continues to spread messages of positivity everywhere he performs.

Earlier this month he shared an encouragement with his followers, telling them that God doesn’t call the qualified, but qualifies the called.
