On the 10th of August, which was a day after the country celebrates its annual Women’s Month, Mia received the support of many back home as she made history by becoming the country’s first-ever hearing-impaired Miss South Africa.

Despite this, she has been an example to many as she confidently assumes her role with class and elegance as she sets her sights on making an impact in the world.

In a statement released by Miss SA organisers, Mia previously revealed that one of her missions is to spread awareness and educate others about the challenges of deaf people.

“We are not in need of sympathy, being deaf does not affect our intelligence and capability. We just need a little bit of help in terms of accessibility and inclusivity such as subtitles on TV shows, advertisements and sign interpreters at live shows,” she highlighted.

According to IOL, each contestant is required to have an advocacy campaign as part of the Miss Universe Voice for Change initiative.

Here she will present her Mia Le Roux Movement which advocates for deaf individuals in mzansi and raises awareness about inclusion.

“The Mia le Roux Movement aims to host specialised training workshops where leaders meet with expert representatives from various marginalised communities,” she revealed.
